A FromSoftware Classic Is Back

When Demon's Souls originally launched in 2009 as a PlayStation 3 exclusive, it was an instant classic with a ton of critical acclaim. But, unfortunately, it couldn't light the gaming world on fire due to being exclusive to a then-underwhelming machine. As time went by, FromSoftware went multiplatform and released a spiritual successor in the name of Dark Souls and became an instant critical darling with commercial success on top. This success brought various sequels and the continuation of the Souls-like genre in the gaming world, but Demon's Souls stayed mainly forgotten and underplayed. With Bluepoint Games' fantastic PlayStation 5 remake, this amazing classic is now back for good and ready to impress.

Unforgiving But Fair Combat

Make no mistake: Just like the other FromSoftware titles, Demon's Souls is a difficult game that doesn't hold your hand with easy difficulty settings and tutorials that talk down on you, so don't be immediately discouraged and give up. Yes, it rarely forgives you for messing up your attack timing or brainlessly attacking a large group of enemies. But it's also extremely fair because all the deaths are simply your fault. They are there to make you learn from your mistakes and teach you how to handle yourself in the land of Boletaria. Because of this visionary game design, almost every single encounter is highly memorable, especially the boss fights, with each environment offering something new and unique. Once the gameplay clicks with you, you'll never be able to leave the controller down.

A Truly Next-Gen Experience

Regardless of being a remake of an old classic, Demon's Souls simply looks breathtaking on the PlayStation 5 with silky-smooth performance, offering truly next-gen visuals and performance. There are two graphics modes, one focuses on graphics and the other focuses on higher frame-rates. We suggest you go with the high frame-rate mode because the responsiveness of the locked 60 FPS gameplay is simply brilliant, but if you just would prefer pretty visuals, the native 4K mode is also quite good at a locked 30 FPS. The medieval environments are just full of detail with an advanced global illumination tech, super high res textures and shadows, ultra-detailed character models, rich particle effects and highly fluid animations.

Ultra-Fast Loading Times

When Demon's Souls first launched on PlayStation 3, it sometimes took nearly 2 full minutes to load back into the area after each death. With the PlayStation 5, these loading times are almost completely gone. From the Nexus hub area --where our player character upgrades skills and weapons-- it takes less than 8 seconds to load into the first level of the game and travelling between bonfires are nearly instant. The monstrously fast next-gen SSD inside the PlayStation 5 makes the game even more immersive and less cumbersome than ever before. This speed increase also eliminates texture pop-ins altogether, further reinforcing the immersive nature of the remake.

Demon's Souls (PS5): Price UK

Demon's Souls (PS5) starts at £65 at launch, but will go down in price as time passes. If you are looking to pick a game that showcases the full power of the PlayStation 5 and its amazing features like the Tempest 3D Audiotech and the DualSense controller, Demon's Souls is an essential purchase. Don't be afraid of the difficulty of the game, just give it your best and see how the game rewards you with a real sense of accomplishment. If you're looking for some other PlayStation 5 games, you might also be interested in Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War, Assassin's Creed: Valhalla and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
