Bayonetta 2

If you like raucous action and grotesque monsters, Bayonetta 2 takes you on the ultimate witch ride. This Nintendo Switch and Wii U exclusive is every bit as good as its classic underground predecessor. The two are even available for purchase together as a set.

Between Heaven and Hell

Bayonetta 2 is a fast-paced 3rd person action game in which Bayonetta has to fight her way through heaven and hell to save her fellow umbra witch Jeanne. It picks up on events from the original game, and the entire campaign takes about 10 hours to complete.

At first the racy witch has only guns to fight with, but later chainsaws and katanas are added. Various combinations are possible, and the whole game is beginner-friendly, though the difficulty level increases considerably over the course of the campaign. As a reward for every defeated opponent, you receive halos to spend on new attacks, items, weapons or costumes.

The game is rated PEGI 18 due to intense violence, blood and gore, partial nudity, strong language and suggestive themes.

Colourful Backdrop

Bayonetta 2 offers bright colours, grotesque opponents, and wild action, all accompanied by a great soundtrack. The game makes a good impression on both consoles, with smooth action and short loading times. A few unclean textures exist but considering the age of the Wii U version (2014), this is to be expected. Much more annoying is the fact that TV mode only supports up to 720p resolution.

Bayonetta 2 for Switch: UK Verdict

Bayonetta 2 is not altogether new, but the Switch version of the game is, and this handheld console provides fun and easy control over the action. The single switch version is currently available from £40, the set from £70.
