Product Description
After a five-year hiatus, how do you return with a bang? Well, just by being bigger and better, and more fun. Borderlands 3 brings you back to the familar mess of a planet that is Pandora, but there is so much more going on here. Instead of trying to adapt the series to the newer attempts at trends in the FPS genre, instead Gearbox Software have spent all that time working on the tiny details, meaning that you'll have almost as much fun exploring as battling with enemies and gunplay, typically the staple. Aside from the main campaign, even side missions are fun and varied, with twists and jokes to stop them being the repetitive grind of catch-and-kills that you'll see throughout a lot of 2019 releases.
Borderlands 3: Shoot, Loot
Despite starting back there, Pandora is just the starting point, as you can explore and travel to other worlds with your team of vault hunters, once you chose to be one of Amara, Zane, Moze, or FL4K. Maps are littered with collectibles, as well as possible scraps.
-
Foes Overall you face the Calypso Twins as the baddies trying to take over the galaxy, one vault at a time. It must be said that these are actually great foes, with separate personalities and even some depth amidst all the humour. Aside from them there is an innumerable army of acolytes, gun pups, and many many more baddies to be found around the maps. There are old friends and new to be negotiated, gaining in difficulty and variation as you advance.
-
Firepower Thankfully in order to take them out there is one of the largest arrays of weapons that you'll find which keep you on your toes. Produced by a wide number of manufacturers, these even have distinct detailing that appeals And that's before you even get to the legendaries, the most advanced guns. versatile
-
It's Not Over Til It's Over Throw in an Endgame and Mayhem mode once you complete the 30 hour campaign, and there are unending amounts of fun to be had. In a world where people are irate that a game involving a cheeky goose ennerving the dwellers of a picturesque village is only three hours long, a game that is sufficiently meaty and engaging over such a long time is to be celebrated as value for money. And that's before any DLC has been announced yet...
Multiplayer Co-op Bliss
What helps things here is a clever Ping feature, where essentially you can point out who has dibs on what - whether that's who has which enemy, or dividing up loot democratically before one character hoovers it all up. Even if they do do that, there is a new way to share and trade weapons and items once you've finished using them. Throw in some new game modes like Cooperation and Coopetition, only adds to the fun with friends.
Verdict - A Deserved Topseller
It might sound stupid but like Rockstar did with Red Dead Redemption 2, it's great to see a franchise disappear for a long time, look at what worked in their game, what they can make better, and put all of that time into designing and developing and detailing a game and for it to take off on release. Don't go off trying to reinvent the wheel unless you know you can get it right (we're looking at you, Fallout), just deliver effectively within the capabilities of the platform, and but life into it.
